REVIEWING TODAY: ORVILLE MOUSE AND THE PUZZLE OF THE CLOCKWORK GLOWBIRDS BY TOM HOFFMAN

A while back I had the distinct pleasure of reading and reviewing for Readers’ Favorite Tom Hoffman’s book for the terminally young: Orville Mouse and The Puzzle of the Shattered Abacus. Simply, and confessionally, because of my inability to resist being swept up by the magic, the embedded wisdom, the adventure and the fun of that second-in-a-series, I felt justified and compelled to return all on my own to read this first book in the series: Orville Mouse and the Puzzle of The Clockwork Glowbirds. You who have young and not-so-young children in the house already possess a ready-made excuse for indulging yourself as well. For those like me, old and single, make do as best you can, but find yourself a copy and return to that wise and childish part of yourself that makes you so nostalgic for your youth.

Orville Mouse is just an everyday mouse, much too prone to fainting in the face of danger. Except that he is not ordinary. He carries destiny in his soul. Sophia Mouse is his best friend, who thinks it cute when Orville faints. Sophia is extraordinarily smart and perceptive, and she recognizes Orville for the superb Metaphysical Adventurer he will in truth become. The adventures on which these two embark occur within a highly imaginary world, perhaps a dream, which lends an air of science fiction/fantasy to the book. Tom Hoffman’s writing is filled with scientific possibilities, ancient universal wisdom, and so much good-natured fun and danger, you must keep reading long after the kids have gone to bed. Let Proto the Rabbiton make for you one of his famous tasty snacks, then let him save you from the Great Carnivorous Centipedes. Don’t worry, he loves it. As you will this book.
